Photo Challenge: Summer
Ailsa has once again given us another challenge. This week it’s Summer. Check out the other entries and comments, and her own lovely photos here!
I had to think about this for a couple of days. Would I post some lovely sunny photos from different countries or not. Summer is obviously the best season…..it’s sunny, people are on holidays, you don’t need a coat…right? It would be right if i didn’t live in Ireland and have a job that is busiest in the summer, meaning I can’t take holidays. Despite all that though, summer really is my favourite season. When it’s sunny here, it’s the nicest place in the world. A few of you have been asking my header photo. It was taken in Achill two years ago. We were so lucky to get 3 sunny days in a row. The original post with more shots is here.
Summer is about grabbing the bits of sun where you can and going to the beach on a Sunday like this just because it’s not raining!
Going to the beach at 8pm because the evening improved after work!
And stopping to watch a sunset like this on the way home.
But, summer really starts when you have the first 99 ice-cream of the year! The chocolate didn’t last long enough for the photo.
I haven’t had one yet this year, but I hear it might be 18 degrees C later on in the week. I’m a little sceptical, it was 11 degrees C yesterday and I had my winter coat, hat and gloves on, so fingers crossed for later in the week!

Lovely! I am more familiar with Scotland than with Ireland, but I know it can be really beautiful on some days in the summer, the more so the further north you go…
I’ve only been to Scotland once and we had 3 sunny weeks. We were so lucky!
So beautiful… Thank you dear Olivia, love, nia
Aaaaah Fountainstown….I use to bring my 5 kids with buckets, spades, sandwiches, buggy and all. Bus into Cork city, then bus to Fountainstown….Shop on the beach, great ice cream! The good old days
I love that little shop. It’s like being in your kitchen if you get tea-mismatched mugs, big slices of apple tart with loads of cream!
Is it actually still there?
It is indeed!
WOW, the tea kitchen was in the back of the main shop, memories
Lovely photos, in that second one the water looks like liquid gold – and oh, Livvy, you just brought back some brilliant memories, I haven’t had a 99 in forever! Really want one now!
I don’t know do they even exist properly in other countries. Can’t wait to have one this year!
I haven’t seen them anywhere else. Have an extra one – for me!
Nothing says summer like ice cream and the beach!
